چکیده

Edge race-tracking is a frequently reported issue during resin transfer molding. It caused by highly permeable channels and areas between the preform edge cavity, which can significantly change impregnation pattern. To date, information scarce on effect of in compression molding (CRTM). close this gap, laboratory equipment was developed to study CRTM via flow visualization experiments. The thereby encapsulated thin thermoplastic films sealing its impregnation. Film-sealed (FS-CRTM) experiments preforms with small geometrical aspect ratio showed fast filling injection gap subsequent through-thickness Creating an channel, additional lateral in-plane from channel towards center observed, initiating soon after started spatial connection channel. diminish race-tracking, passive control strategy implemented split design upper tool spatially isolate pre-compact edge. A delayed reduced showing that increases process robustness FS-CRTM regarding effects.

On-line Characterization of Bulk Permeability and Race-tracking During the Filling Stage in Resin Transfer Molding Process

Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) is widely used to manufacture polymer composite materials. In this process, the fiber preform is placed in a closed mold and thermoset resin is injected to saturate the preform. After the resin cures the mold is opened and the net shape composite part is obtained. With RTM, one is capable of making complex and high quality composite parts with short cycle times. How...

Parameter Estimation for Resin Transfer Molding

A simplified approach for estimating weld lines, vent locations and fill times for resin transfer molding applications in non-planar geometry is presented. The molding parts are treated as polyhedral spaces for which the concept of Voronoi diagram and shortest paths is utilized to predict the formation of weld lines, location of vents and filling times. The approach is based purely on geometric...

Direct Adaptive Control of Resin Transfer Molding

Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) is a manufacturing process that involves injection of liquid resin into a closed mold cavity containing preset fiber mats and a subsequent curing stage. Mold filling is a crucial stage for quality part productions. In order to automate production and minimize the formation of defects, control of mold filling is needed. In this paper, direct adaptive control strategy...
